Our Students
Our students come from a variety of backgrounds. About 15% of our student population comes from the surrounding community and have a basically good public school education with a deficit in study skills. The other 85% come from within a 30 km radius, mostly boys who qualify for college and cannot find anything of quality near their home.
Through Gurukul, our school offers a variety of medical programs, Community Medical Services, a Physician Assistant Program and a Rural Veterinarian Program. Many students come from the closest city of Balcaro, the "Pittsburgh of India" because of the large steel industry there. A few other students hail from Patna and Calcutta.
We push our students to a level that is not the norm in India. A student is not approved for examinations unless class attendance is maintained at 85%, and their class average is 75%. This presents a real challenge for our students. They have never been pushed like this in their previous schooling, and so we cross the educational and cultural boundaries of their worlds!
